I learned some very interesting things this week! I learned that we can learn a mountain of things from the scriptures, but without personal revelation we will never be able to understand why it matters, or how it all really fits together. There is a real difference between learned and wise. On the mission you get to talk to many people that know the Bible really well, but at the end of it all, just don't get it. I'm reminded of the quote by Joseph Smith, that "The best way to obtain truth and wisdom is not to ask it from books, but to go to God in prayer, and obtain divine teaching." That is my goal right now, to focus on obtaining wisdom from God, and not just creating hypotheses from the scriptures. When you only have access to the scriptures, those are your only two options: your own hypotheses, or divine teaching from the Lord.
We also have an investigator that is preparing to get married and then will be baptized, and she is incredible! She is so converted to the gospel, and basically understands everything. So the last lesson we had, she asked us if we could teach her about marriage. It was the first lesson I've given about marriage, about how it works and the blessings of it, but it was amazing! In that moment I began to understand a little bit of what it means to have your mouth filled by the Spirit! It was so cool! I felt the spirit so strongly and really was able to teach with that power and authority. I know this is the work of the Lord, and that he is here, helping us every day. It is such a blessing to be here, right now!
I love you all!
